Yma O Hyd FAQ's:
How does the process work?
We try to make this as simple and gentle as possible during a difficult time. Once you place an order, we will send you a secure, discreet collection kit with clear instructions on how to send your loved one's ashes, hair, or pet fur to our Welsh workshop. Once we receive it, we lovingly craft your piece and return any unused inclusions safely back to you alongside your finished jewellery.
How much ashes or hair do you need?
We need very little to create a beautiful piece:
Ashes: About one level teaspoon per item.
Hair or Fur: A small lock about 2–3cm long.
Other materials: Please get in touch to discuss any specific ideas etc @ Info@ymaohyd.co.uk
Equine mane/tail hair: Please provide at least 10cm if possible
How long does it take to make my jewellery?
Because every piece is handcrafted with the utmost care, our standard turnaround time is 2 to 4 weeks from the day we receive your collection kit. If you need a piece for a specific date (like an anniversary or funeral service), please let us know and we will do our absolute best to accommodate you.
Safety, Trust & Materials
Can I be absolutely sure you are using my loved one’s ashes?
We understand this is your biggest worry. We operate under a strict one-piece-at-a-time policy. Your loved one's remains are cataloged immediately upon arrival, kept in a dedicated, labeled container, and tracked through every single stage of production. Any unused ashes or hair are meticulously packaged and returned to you with your completed jewellery.
What materials do you use?
We use high-quality, ethically sourced metals including 925 Sterling Silver, 9ct Gold, and Surgical Steel. All of our precious metals are officially hallmarked according to UK law to guarantee their purity. For the setting, we use a specialized, durable jewellery-grade resin to secure the ashes, hair or fur safely.
Can I wash whilst wearing my jewellery?
While the resin setting is highly water-resistant, we strongly recommend removing your memorial jewellery before showering, swimming, or soaking in a bath. Prolonged exposure to water, harsh soaps, perfumes, or chemicals (like chlorine) can dull the finish of the metal and the setting over time.
Orders, Delivery & Location
Do you accept local drop-offs or appointments?
Yes. If you live in Wales and prefer not to trust the postal service with such precious items, you are welcome to hand-deliver your collection kit directly to our workshop by appointment. Please contact us to arrange a quiet, private time to visit.
How is the finished jewellery delivered?
We return your finished jewellery and any unused ashes or hair using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This is a fully tracked, insured, and next-day service that requires a signature upon delivery, ensuring your items never get lost in transit.
Can I include more than one person's ashes in a single piece?
Yes, absolutely. We can respectfully blend ashes or hair from multiple loved ones (for example, parents who passed away years apart, or a pet and their owner) into a single piece of jewellery. Just let us know your wishes when placing your order.
